Quick PrayerEditorial | Illustration | Concept2019
This project explores the fleeting and conditional nature of faith in contemporary Chinese society. Through a series of miniature books featuring the Eighteen Arhats, Buddhist figures known for solving worldly troubles, I reflect on how religious symbols are often treated as temporary solutions rather than sources of deep conviction.
In a culture where faith is often a means to personal gain, with prayers for children, wealth, promotions, and health, I question whether belief retains its meaning when shaped by pragmatism. Like childhood trinkets that offer brief satisfaction, these books are objects of momentary reliance, picked up when needed and easily forgotten.
> Part I
> A ritual enactment of purchasing, praying, and offering incense — a brief moment where faith is treated as a transactional remedy.
> Part II
> A close-up display of illustrations and posters highlighting the intricate details.
